Xichun Zhang, male, from Heilongjiang, Ph.D., Professor, Master’s Supervisor.
Studied in Genetics, Department of Biology, Saint Petersburg State University, Russia from November 1995 to July 1999, and obtained Ph.D. degree.Conducted postdoctoral research and worked as a teacher at China Agricultural University from September 1999 to March 2003.Worked at College of Plant Science and Technology, Beijing University of Agriculture since April 2003.
Part-time Deputy Secretary-General and Executive Director of Beijing Vegetable Society, Director of National Association of Higher Agricultural Education, Director of Teaching Research Branch of China Higher Education Association, Director of Soviet Union Alumni Branch of Western Returned Scholars Association, Director of Overseas Friendship Association of Changping District, Beijing.
II. Research interests
Vegetable genetic breeding and biotechnology; innovation and utilization of low-temperature resistant tomato germplasm resources; identification and screening of cold-resistant tomato resources; physiological, biochemical and molecular mechanisms of tomato low-temperature resistance and disease resistance; cloning and transformation of cold-resistant genes; variety breeding by tissue and cell engineering combined with conventional breeding.
III. Research Projects
Presided over more than 10 national and provincial-ministerial scientific research projects including Genetic law and biochemical mechanism of tomato late blight (Phytophthora infestans (Mont) De Bary) traits, Screening of tomato late blight resistant strains and disease-resistant biochemical mechanism, Screening of multi-resistant tomato strains by cell regeneration plants, Demonstration and popularization of famous and special vegetable varieties, Integration and demonstration of water-saving cultivation technology for protected tomato, Breeding of new vegetable varieties for urban agriculture.
IV. Major Achievements
Obtained a number of tomato varieties (strains).Published more than 70 academic papers and more than 20 books.Won more than 10 national and provincial-ministerial awards.Cultivated more than 20 postgraduate students.
