By remaining committed to the development of the capital in the new era, BUA continues to adapt to the needs of development of urban modern agriculture and rural revitalisation in Beijing. The university has created a discipline layout consisting mainly of disciplines in agriculture, engineering and management, with those in agriculture dominating. The university has 10 first-level disciplines, including Horticulture, Forestry, Crop Science, Veterinary Medicine, Animal Husbandry, Plant Protection, Bioengineering, Food Science and Engineering, Economics & Management of Agriculture & Forestry, and Business Administration. Of these disciplines, Horticulture has been included in the list of advanced and sophisticated disciplines to be built by universities in Beijing, and Horticulture, Veterinary Medicine and Economics & Management of Agriculture & Forestry have been included in Beijing's doctoral programme construction plan. The university has 27 national and provincial/ministerial scientific research platforms, two national and four Beijing municipal experimental teaching demonstration centres, one national, five municipal and 338 university-level off-campus talent training bases, and two Beijing municipal on-campus practice bases. Three programmes, such as Horticulture, Veterinary Medicine and Economics & Management of Agriculture & Forestry, have been included in the list of national characteristic programmes; four programmes, including Horticulture, Economics & Management of Agriculture & Forestry, Landscape Architecture and Veterinary Medicine, have been included in the list of national first-class undergraduate programmes; 13 programmes, such as Food Science and Engineering, have been included in the list of first-class undergraduate programmes in Beijing; and Horticulture and Veterinary Medicine have been listed as key first-class programmes to be built by universities in Beijing. The university has presided over or participated in more than 800 national and provincial/ministerial projects, including those supported by the National Key Research and Development Programme of China and the National Natural Science Foundation of China. It has won more than 100 national and provincial/ministerial awards, such as the National Science and Technology Progress Award, China Youth Science and Technology Award, Shennong China Agricultural Science and Technology Award, and Beijing Science and Technology Award. It has been given more than 30 national and Beijing municipal awards for educational and teaching achievements.
With the mission of supporting a strong and prosperous agriculture, BUA fully leverages its school-running advantages to contribute its due share to Beijing's effort to advance rural revitalisation on all fronts and become one of the first to modernise agriculture and rural areas. In line with the service strategy of "basing itself in Beijing, supporting the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and extending its influence nationwide" and the planning and layout of key regions, the university has built an interdisciplinary social service team across the industrial chain by pooling its advantages in human resources and majors/disciplines through platforms such as professor workstations, workstations for poverty alleviation through the development of industries and the National Science Park. The university' services reach many areas of Beijing. The university has participated in the preparation of agriculture-related industrial plans and regional development plans, and has 11 science and technology backyards included among those jointly supported and built by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and China Association for Science and Technology. The case of BUA teachers and students supporting rural revitalisation has been selected as one of the UN's global best poverty reduction cases twice, and as one of the Ministry of Education's typical projects of targeted poverty alleviation by universities under the administration of provincial governments for three consecutive times.
Over more than 60 years since its founding, BUA has cultivated a galaxy of outstanding graduates who are committed to grassroots work, down-to-earth and diligent, and have become the backbone of Beijing's economic and social development, especially of agricultural development. Among them are excellent government officials, outstanding agricultural experts and scholars, and influential entrepreneurs in agriculture. Now BUA has become an important base for urban modern agricultural talents in Beijing and a technical service centre for national modern agriculture demonstration zones, and is marching toward a domestically first-rate and internationally renowned high-level application-oriented university with urban agriculture and forestry characteristics!
