BUA Receives Delegation from Agricultural University of Athens

On April 14, 2026, a five-member delegation led by Spyros Kintzios, Rector of the Agricultural University of Athens (AUA), Greece, paid a visit to BUA. The two sides had in-depth discussions on academic exchanges, research collaboration, and talent cultivation. BUA's Vice President Wu Yan attended the meeting. Also present were representatives from the International Cooperation and Exchange Office and the College of Bioscience and Resources Environment. The meeting was chaired by He Zhongwei.

Wu Yan extended a cordial welcome to the delegation. She noted that BUA is committed to agriculture and forestry education, with a focus on the development of modern agriculture, ecological and environmental protection, and rural revitalization, having established a pattern characterized by the coordinated development of multiple disciplines such as agriculture, forestry, biology, resources and environment. She said, BUA has improved steadily in disciplinary strength, with competitive disciplines including botany & zoology and agricultural sciences successively listed among the top 1% globally in ESI rankings, and has built a solid research foundation and distinctive strengths in agricultural ecosystem protection, efficient resource utilization, and biodiversity conservation. She pointed out that AUA, as a prestigious agricultural university in Greece, shares similar educational positioning, disciplines and visions with BUA, which provides a sound foundation and broad prospects for bilateral cooperation. She expressed hope that both universities will take this exchange as a new starting point to deepen cooperation and build consensus on academic exchanges, joint research, and talent cultivation, so as to set an example of practical cooperation between Chinese and Greek agricultural universities, and contribute wisdom and strength to the green and high-quality development of agriculture and the ongoing improvement of ecological environment in both countries.

 

Professor Spyros Kintzios provided a comprehensive overview of AUA, covering its scale, disciplinary and research strengths, practical teaching platforms, and technological innovations. He stated that China and Greece are both ancient civilizations with long histories, and both universities boast robust foundations and outstanding advantages in agricultural resource utilization, biomedicine and some other fields. He expressed hope that the visit will kickstart broader and deeper cooperation between the two sides in scientific research, academic visits, student and faculty exchanges, and collaborative innovation among industry, academia, and research institutes.

 

Subsequently, the two sides held detailed exchanges on the key areas, models and paths of cooperation, reaching preliminary consensus on practical cooperation for the next step.

 

After the meeting, the delegation visited the BUA's intelligent greenhouse, gaining a deep understanding of BUA's progress and achievements in smart agriculture, protected agriculture, and the commercialization and demonstrative application of agricultural scientific and technological outcomes. The delegation spoke highly of BUA's commitment to agricultural and forestry education and remarkable achievements in agricultural scientific and technological innovation.
