On February 26, 2026, a 4-member delegation led by Prof. Necdet Ünüvar, Rector of Ankara University (AU), visited BUA. The two sides held in-depth discussions on academic exchanges, scientific research cooperation and joint talent cultivation, and signed a memorandum of inter-university cooperation. BUA's President Duan Liusheng and Vice President Wu Yan attended the meeting. Participants also included heads of the International Cooperation and Exchange Office, the College of Bioscience and Resources Environment, the College of Plant Science and Technology, the College of Food Science and Engineering and the College of Animal Science and Technology. The meeting was chaired by Wu Yan.
Duan Liusheng extended a warm welcome and sincere gratitude to the delegation for traveling from afar to build a bridge of cooperation. He noted that as an urban university of agriculture and forestry featuring agricultural strengths and coordinated development of multiple disciplines, BUA has been committed to education for nearly seven decades, consistently practicing the motto of "Virtue, Action, Knowledge and Enthusiasm". BUA boasts distinctive and profound expertise in horticulture, veterinary medicine, smart agriculture, agricultural and forestry economics & management, among other fields. In particular, its two core disciplines, Botany and Zoology, and Agricultural Sciences, have ranked among the top 1% of the ESI global rankings. Currently, BUA is actively broadening its global vision and steadily advancing the "BUA Global Strategic Partnership Program", having established sound and friendly partnership with universities and enterprises in multiple foreign countries. He added, China and Turkey enjoy a long-standing friendship, and agriculture serves as the economic and social foundation of both countries. AU boasts advanced concepts and fruitful achievements in agricultural education, scientific research innovation and international cooperation. The two universities are highly aligned in positioning, which lays a solid foundation for the deep, wide-ranging pragmatic cooperation between the two sides. Duan Liusheng expressed hope that this visit will kick off a new journey where both sides establish a regular exchange mechanism, forge consensus and team up in student and faculty exchanges, academic seminars, collaborative research and joint talent cultivation, so as to contribute wisdom and strength to the sustainable development of global agriculture.
Prof. Necdet Ünüvar first expressed sincere thanks for the warm reception. When introducing AU, he highlighted Turkey's rich legacy in agricultural education and research as the world's sixth largest agricultural country. AU has built core strengths in agriculture, food safety, viticulture, etc., and its Faculty of Agriculture enjoys a high reputation in the field of agricultural science and education in Turkey and even globally. He said, the two universities have highly aligned disciplines and thus see great potential for cooperation. He expressed hope that this visit will serve as an opportunity for both sides to promote the establishment of a student and faculty exchange mechanism, accelerate the implementation of more substantive cooperation projects, and drive win-win development characterized by the complementation of advantages.
As part of the trip, the delegation visited the cryo-electron microscopy laboratory, intelligent greenhouse, as well as key municipal-level laboratories of veterinary medicine (traditional Chinese medicine) and dairy cattle nutrition, gaining an in-depth understanding of BUA's frontier exploration and practical achievements in agricultural research innovation and commercialization of outcomes. The delegation fully affirmed and spoke highly of BUA's distinctive characteristics and remarkable achievements in education.
