International Exchanges:

Team members have visited for research at the School of Environmental Sciences, Michigan State University,Netherlands; Ecosystem Ecology Laboratory, Center for Global Change and Earth Observations, Michigan State University, USA; Center for Water Resources Research, School of Natural Resources and Environment, University of New Hampshire, USA; Department of Environment, University of Quebec at Montreal, Canada; and School of Chemical Engineering, University of Birmingham, UK, respectively, and have established good cooperation and exchange relations with these research institutions.

Research Projects:

Team members have presided over 6 projects of National Natural Science Foundation of China, 1 sub-project of National Meteorological Public Welfare Industry Program, 1 special basin sub-project of CAS Ecological Remote Sensing Survey, 1 sub-project of National Prime Minister's Fund, 1 project of Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission, 2 projects of Beijing Municipal Natural Science Foundation, and 1 project of Natural Science Foundation of Xinjiang Autonomous Region, and participated in vertical projects such as 2 sub-projects of CAS Strategic Pilot Program as well as a number of horizontal projects.

Major Research Areas:

Study on Changes in Ecosystem (Land Use) Patterns and Driving Forces in Different RegionsBased on multivariate remote sensing and spatial auxiliary data, as well as socio-economic statistics, the team constructed a spatial database of eco-environmental elements with "3S" technology, and studied the spatial changes in regional land-use patterns and the social driving forces, providing a scientific basis for the government to develop multifunctional spatial optimization of land use; it measured the ecosystem service functions of different regional land use types based on the InVest model, providing a basis for sustainable management of regional ecosystems.

Impacts of Ecological Land Use Patterns at Different Scales on Pollutant Loads and Risk AssessmentThe team estimated the spatial loads of pollutants in different regions using the input coefficient model, and evaluated the regional spatial distribution of heavy metals and ecological risks, laying the foundation for the quantitative assessment of regional eco-environment quality.

Modelling of Eco-hydrological Processes and Non-point Source Pollution in Ecological Land Use RegulationThe team simulated eco-hydrological processes at different scales based on the watershed-scale eco-hydrological model SWAT and the urban stormwater management model SWMM; on the basis of experimental observations, it simulated the eco-hydrological processes of different green space types, providing references for regional land-use planning and utilization of stormwater resources.

Study on the Influence of Urban Green Space Patterns on Eco-Environmental EffectsThe team selected different regional green space types and studied the heat island effect around the basin with the support of the mono-window algorithm of remote sensing images; with the support of ENVI-met software, it measured the cold island effect of different green space types; on the basis of the sample survey, it analyzed the influence of tree leaves of different species types and the community structure of tree species in green space of typical sample zones on haze reduction and dust removal through indoor experiments; it examined the ecological carbon sequestration potential of typical regional stands before and after afforestation on the plains.

Taking alpine wetland, grassland and farmland ecosystems as research objects, the team investigated the impact mechanism of climate change and anthropogenic disturbances, such as moisture, water level change, atmospheric nitrogen deposition, grazing, enclosure, etc., on the ecosystem plants, GHG emissions, soil organic carbon and microbial community structure. The research results represented an important supplement to the observed carbon flux data of terrestrial ecosystems in China, and provided a reference for assessing the impacts of climate change and human activities on terrestrial ecosystems, and for formulating management policies related to regional ecological protection.

The team studied the preparation of biomass charcoal-based materials from agricultural crop straws, discarded fruit branches, urban sludge, livestock and poultry manure, and spice processing wastes, and their applications to heavy metals, oil pollution, saline soil improvement, and remediation of nitrogen and phosphorus pollution in lake and river sediments, etc., providing resource utilization solutions for China's agricultural wastes, and technical references for the remediation of polluted environments and the enhancement of environmental quality.
