Yuncong Yao, Professor, Doctoral Supervisor. Born in Yongji, Shanxi Province.Expert receiving special government allowance from the State Council.

Graduated from China Agricultural University with a Ph.D. in Horticulture.Started working at Beijing University of Agriculture in June 1987.Senior Visiting Scholar at The Ohio State University/OARDC, USA.Formerly served as Dean of Department of Horticulture, Director of Academic Affairs Office, Assistant President of Beijing University of Agriculture.Appointed Vice President of Beijing University of Agriculture in April 2007.

Member of Horticulture Teaching Guidance Committee, Ministry of Education; Member of Beijing Crop Variety Approval Committee; Executive Director of Protected Horticulture Branch, Chinese Horticultural Society; Executive Director of Apricot & Plum Branch, Chinese Horticultural Society; Executive Director of Apple Branch, Chinese Horticultural Society; Member of International Society for Horticultural Science.

II. Research interests

Teaching, research and technology extension of horticulture.

Utilization and innovation of fruit tree germplasm resources.

Evaluation of color and stress resistance of Malus germplasm resources; pollution-free and organic cultivation technology of apple and pear.

III. Research Projects

Presided over 2 sub-projects of National Key Technology R&D Program, 2 General Programs of National Natural Science Foundation of China, 1 Key Project of Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission, 2 sub-projects of National Public Welfare Industry Research Program.

IV. Major Achievements

      1. Won 13 awards including First Prize of China Agricultural Science and Technology Award, First Prize of Science and Technology Award of China Chamber of Commerce, Second Prize of Science and Technology Progress Award of Ministry of Education, Second Prize of Beijing Agricultural Technology Extension Award.

      2. Published more than 60 textbooks, monographs, standards and popular science books.

      3. Published more than 200 academic papers, including more than 50 SCI papers in Plant Biotechnology Journal, Scientific Reports, Plant Cell and Physiology, Horticulture Research, Frontiers in Plant Science.

      4. Authorized 9 national invention patents.

      5. Bred 12 new ornamental crabapple varieties.
