The Key Laboratory of Urban Agriculture in North China of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs was established in July 2008. Following the development orientation of "basing the capital, serving Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, targeting North China and radiating to the whole country", the Lab takes the "Three Rural Issues" as one of its top priorities. It is committed to leveraging the concept of urban agriculture to contribute to China's rural revitalization strategy, improve the agricultural seeding quality, develop low-carbon urban agriculture, foster the healthy and sustainable development of urban agriculture in China, and advance the modernization of agriculture and rural areas.

The Lab now has 90 permanent staff, of which 72% are researchers with senior professional and technical titles, and more than 40% have foreign experience. The Lab has more than 20 sets of large instruments, such as liquid-mass, gas-mass, liquid-phase and gas-phase analyzers, protein preparation systems, colony screening workstations, molecular interactions systems, ELISA Readers, etc., with a total value of RMB more than 20 million. The areas of cooperative research are listed below:

1. Theory and Policy Research on Urban Agriculture Development in North China

2. Low-Carbon & Efficient Production and Resource Utilization of Waste in Urban Agriculture

3. Research on Plant Health and Safe Production in Urban Agriculture and Forestry

4. Discovery and High-Value Utilization of Biofunctional Components

5. Development and Utilization of Green Pesticides and Nanopesticides

6. Detection and Analysis of Pesticide Residues and Environmental Pollution
