From September 11 to 14, the 32nd China Beijing Seed Industry Conference was held in Beijing. BUA displayed several technological outcomes at the conference, showing the progress and achievements it has achieved in the innovation of urban agriculture technologies.

It's learned that the conference was first co-sponsored by the departments of agriculture and rural affairs in Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei. Combining advantages of the three regions in innovation and R&D, transfer and application of technologies, and industrial integration, the event features a regional focus, an international reach, and market orientation. The conference was run on a distributed model, with the Zhongguancun main forum hosted at the main venue in Tongzhou, and 10 parallel sessions held in Fengtai, Pinggu, and Yanqing, etc. respectively focused on corn; microbiology; vegetable; forestry, fruit, flower, grass & bee; animal husbandry; synthetic biology; crop seeds and seedlings, and recreational fishery and seed industries, among other fields.

At the main venue in Tongzhou, BUA displayed achievements covering fields such as ornamental horticulture, characteristic crops, smart equipment, and digital governance, highlighting the innovation concept guided by green, efficiency, intelligence and convenience. Among them, the Cailing Salvia splendens series is a rare strong-branching variety in the world. Shaped like a ball, the plant doesn't need to be pinched. This not only reduces labor costs, but also minimizes the risk of diseases that may arise from manual operations. "BUA 109" is the first approved black soybean variety in Beijing. With a high anthocyanin content, it serves as a new dietary option offering antioxidant and anti-aging benefits for beauty-conscious individuals. The smart beehive features sensors that monitor and control parameters, which significantly improves honey quality, making fully mature honey available to ordinary people while reducing beekeepers' labor intensity by more than 60%. The Digital Beijing Village Platform, designed to support rural affairs, facilitates town-level administration and enables real-time supervision at municipal and district levels, ultimately contributing to easier governance, greater convenience for residents, industrial growth, and data-driven decision-making. The platform has by far been applied across Beijing.

At the sub-venue of Yanqing, BUA displayed new varieties of forestry and fruit crops, which is characterized by high quality, early maturity, and stress resistance, and precisely align with market demands. Among them, the improved chestnut variety "Jingshuhong" matures early, with golden flesh, thin shells, and a sweet, glutinous texture, and is perfect for the roasted nut market during the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays. "BUA Iced Chestnut", the first dedicated variety for iced chestnuts at home, boasts excellent marketability. It is reddish-brown inside, and bright and less fuzzy outside. In terms of quality, with a high content of resistant starch and sugar, it offers a powdery, glutinous, and sweet taste with an ice cream-like texture, which makes it highly popular among chestnut farmers and processors. The diverse varieties of Liriope spicata features outstanding resistance against drought, cold, shade, and pest/disease, meeting the requirements for low-cost landscape maintenance. Moreover, their colorful foliage provides abundant options for landscaping, attracting great attention from growers and relevant enterprises.

In recent years, to support Beijing's efforts to build itself into the "Capital of the Seed Industry" and a garden city, drive the innovative development of the "Agricultural Zhongguancun", and promote the coordinated development of the Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei and Inner Mongolia, BUA has systematically established a diversified matrix of innovation platforms, including foreign academician workstations, rural revitalization stations, professor workstations, characteristic industry research institutes, and the service mechanism of vice president of technology. As a result, a positive cycle across the chain from technological R&D and achievement transformation to industrial upgrading and talent cultivation has taken shape, effectively integrating technological innovation with industrial needs, truly combining research papers with farmlands and translating research achievements into gains for farmers. In doing so, BUA has contributed its strength to the development of the capital city in the new era and the comprehensive revitalization of rural areas.
