On October 10, one of the special forums of the 2024 World AgriFood Innovation (WAFI) Conference – the University Presidents Forum was held at the Jinhai Lake International Convention and Exhibition Center in Pinggu District, Beijing. Representatives from nearly 80 universities, research institutes and international organizations at home and abroad attended the conference.Zhao Feng,Chairman of the University Council was invited to the Forum and made a presentation on the "Evaluation System of Colleges and Universities and the Future of Agricultural Universities in the New Era".

Zhao Feng highlighted BUA's practices and achievements in making BUA a high-level applied university with urban agricultural and forestry characteristics through high-quality party building, and how it has comprehensively reformed the education evaluation system, and strove to build an education evaluation system and mechanism that is compatible with the BUA's high-quality development.

Zhao Feng pointed out that by studying General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important expositions on education and the Three Rural Issues (agriculture, rural areas and farmers) and practicing them in our work, BUA has focused on building a stronger foundation and strengthened the top-level design and overall planning of high-quality development with strategic thinking. Through campaigns such as the “Year of Refining Work Style”, “Year of Quality Improvement” and “Year of Work Implementation”, BUA has created a healthy, enterprising and hard-working atmosphere in which the faculty and staff have demonstrated solidarity, competitiveness and aspiration to safeguard the achievements of deepening the comprehensive school reform. We strongly believe that talents are the primary resource, and have strengthened management of talents by the Party to promote the reform of the talent selection and appointment mechanism for enhancement of innovation. We've introduced "inducement prizes" to better evaluate scientific researches. By making full use of our advantages of disciplines and majors, focusing on the “bottleneck” technical problems in rural revitalization, and driving innovativeness, we encourage our researchers to write their papers on the fertile soil and achieve good results in the farmers’ harvests.

Zhao Feng said that BUA will thoroughly study and carry out the spirit of the Third Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, keep the faith of educating people and training talents for the Party and the country, take moral education as the foundation and strengthening and revitalizing agriculture as its mission, lead the high-quality development of the school with high-quality party building, address important contemporary issues of "How BUA can contribute to strengthening education" and "How BUA can contribute to strengthening agriculture" with practical actions, and strive to make new contributions and write a new chapter in the development of the Capital in the new era and the strengthening of the country through promoting agriculture!

Zhao Feng came to BUA's exhibition area at the WAFI Conference and had in-depth exchanges with teachers and students. He encouraged them to carry out scientific research and social services by focusing on national strategic needs, produce more high-level scientific and technological achievements, and make greater contributions to rural revitalization and agricultural and rural modernization.

BUA's research achievements, such as the Small Robot for Farmland Operations and Monitoring, and Smart Beehives, were displayed at the conference’s exhibition.Among them, the Small Auxiliary Robot with Visual Navigation for Farmland Operations adopts a host computer/joystick dual control system and an optimized design architecture. It is used in multiple agricultural scenarios such as field low crop management and greenhouse fruit and vegetable picking, in order to enhance the physical sensation of agricultural operators and improve the agricultural operation efficiency. The Smart Beehive monitors and controls parameters through sensors to improve the quality of honey and make it 100% ripe. It can also reduce the labor intensity of beekeepers by more than 60%. The Smart Sweet Potato Warehouse uses the Internet of Things to organically connect the refrigeration, warming, ventilation, disinfection and other functions involved in the sweet potato storage process, reducing the decay of sweet potatoes and the expenditure of labor costs during storage, making it intelligent and efficient.

It is reported that the 2024 WAFI Conference was held at the Jinhai Lake International Convention and Exhibition Center in Pinggu, Beijing from October 10 to 12. The theme of the conference was "Climate Change and Transformation of the Agri-Food System". It aims to gather global agricultural science and technology innovation forces to jointly respond to the challenges facing the global agri-food system and promote the sustainable development of agriculture.

Standing Party Committee members and Vice Presidents Zhang Deqiang and Wu Yan, as well as heads of relevant departments and secondary colleges and representatives of teachers and students, attended the Conference.
