ELDC Experts Visit BUA

On August 29, a team led by Wim Schielen, Management Director of European Livestock Diagnosis Center (ELDC), visited BUA and Duan Liusheng, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President of BUA met the guests. Both sides exchanged views on the establishment of partnership and joint building of laboratories. Qi Xiaolong, Deputy Director of the Science and Technology Office, and Guo Kaijun and Liu Fangchen, both Deputy Directors of the International Cooperation and Exchange Office, attended the meeting.

Duan Liusheng extended welcome to Dr. Wim Schielen and his colleagues. He also introduced the scientific research platforms of BUA, including municipal-level key laboratories and the food nutrition & safety certification laboratory, as well as the disciplinary characteristics and international cooperation in areas like animal science, animal medicine and food science. He expressed the desire to carry out exchanges and cooperation with ELDC at industry, academia and research levels.

Dr. Wim Schielen briefed ELDC’s basic information and long-term cooperative relationship with China. He added, amid the booming livestock industry in China, the Center is willing to cooperate with BUA to build laboratories and jointly contribute to China’s dairy industry.

After the meeting, the team visited BUA’s animal hospital and key laboratories, and had in-depth discussions with the International Cooperation and Exchange Office and relevant discipline teams on the details of cooperation.

ELDC is the largest veterinary research center in Europe, committed to improving capabilities in livestock production performance testing as well as in the early warning, prevention and control of livestock diseases. It has developed a Farm Management and Monitoring (FMM) System for cattle, goats and pigs, which has been effectively applied in more than 10 European countries. ELDC is one of the important research and practice institutions in the field of veterinary diagnosis in Europe. ‌
