The Center of Agro-product Safety and Quality, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs recently announced the third batch of national famous, special, high-quality and new agricultural products and characteristic agricultural products for 2025. Seven ("6+1") featured agricultural products from Beijing were on the list, including the "Beibainuo 601" glutinous corn, bred by the team led by Professor Zhang Qiuzhi from the College of Plant Science and Technology of BUA and promoted by the Beijing Heheyuan Planting Cooperative under the model of "professor workstation + company + planting cooperative + rural household".

"Beibainuo 601" is a glutinous corn variety developed in 2013 by Professor Zhang Qiuzhi, Professor Pan Jinbao and some other teachers of BUA after years of cross-breeding in southern and northern China. Featuring rich nutrition and superior quality, the variety's dried kernels contain 10.0% crude protein, 5.15% crude fat and 64.95% crude starch, with amylopectin comprising 99.22% of the total starch - all indicators outperform those of the control variety. In particular, its calcium content reaches 31-33.1 mg/kg (14.0 mg/kg for the control variety) and lysine content is 150-180 mg/100g (82 mg/100g for the control variety). With plump ears and compact kernels, it tastes glutinous, soft and sweet after steaming or boiling.

In 2021, Professor Zhang Qiuzhi's team set up a professor workstation at Beijing Miyun Taimin Tongfeng Technology Co., Ltd. Fully leveraging its strengths in the breeding, multiplication and promotion of germplasm resources, the team established a platform integrating technology promotion and the production and sales of agricultural products. By synergizing the intellectual resources of BUA, the market operation capabilities of the enterprise and the practical experience of the cooperative, it built a premium seed production base, and formed a sound cooperative ecosystem.

In 2022, seed production for the "Beibainuo 601" glutinous corn commenced at the base of Beijing Heheyuan Planting Cooperative. Over the next three years, the cooperative achieved standardization of the whole process from field to table by adopting green planting technologies. The glutinous corn has been well received by consumers since its launch and is sold nationwide through e-commerce platforms.

BUA will thoroughly study and implement the guiding principles of the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20^th CPC Central Committee as well as the national and municipal education conferences, and fully carry out the guiding principles of the Fourth Party Congress of BUA. Focusing on national strategies and the development needs of Beijing in the new era, BUA will further deepen cooperation with local governments and enterprises through social service platforms both inside and outside the university, to produce more high-quality scientific and technological outcomes, build a social service system with the characteristics of BUA, and make new and greater contributions to all-around rural revitalization.
