Driving Rural Revitalization on All Fronts with New Quality Productive Forces --2024 Academic Forum of Beijing Research Center for Rural Revitalization Convened

On November 23, the 2024 Academic Forum of Beijing Research Center for Rural Revitalization, sponsored by BUA and organized by Beijing Research Center for Rural Revitalization and the College of Economics and Management of BUA, was unveiled in Beijing. The event brought together experts, scholars and industrial representatives from the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, over 40 universities, colleges and research institutes, including Peking University, Renmin University of China and China Agricultural University, and more than 30 enterprises. Duan Liusheng, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President of BUA, attended and addressed the forum.

Duan noted that empowering and advancing rural revitalization on all fronts through new quality productive forces is a key mission of the times. He said, as a municipal-level cultural and social science research base established at BUA, Beijing Research Center for Rural Revitalization will drive the cause of agriculture, rural areas, and rural residents by acting as a new-type agricultural think tank. It will continue to focus on hotspot issues, develop new quality productive forces, serve agriculture, rural areas, and rural residents in Beijing, and make BUAs contribution to advancing rural revitalization and modernizing agriculture and rural areas in all aspects.

Keynote reports were delivered respectively by Song Hongyuan, former director of the Research Center for Rural Economy of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (Developing New Quality Productive Forces to Advance the Building of China into an Agricultural Powerhouse), Huang Jikun, Director of the Institute for New Rural Development of Peking University (Institutions and Mechanisms to Develop New Quality Productive Forces for Agriculture According to Local Conditions), Liu Can, Deputy Director of the Development and Research Center of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration (Comprehensively Deepening the Collective Forest Rights System Reform and Operation of Rural Areas), and Zhang Lixiang, Dean of the School of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development of Renmin University of China (Strategies for Implementing Rural Industrial Revitalization and Case Study). He Zhongwei, Dean of BUAs Graduate School and chief expert of Beijing Research Center for Rural Revitalization, chaired the session.

The forum also included eight parallel sessions, including those respectively themed comprehensive rural revitalization and the modernization of agriculture and rural areas, rural governance capacity and systems, new quality productive forces and digital economy, cultivation and development of new-type business entities, and green, low-carbon and sustainable agricultural development, as well as Parallel Session I for masters and doctors, Parallel Session II for masters and doctors, and BUA session on the prosperity of social science. More than 120 papers were submitted for the forum, 45 of which were selected for academic exchanges at the parallel sessions.

Next, BUA will carry out theoretical and application research centering on key issues such as comprehensively advancing rural revitalization on all fronts, path to the modernization of agriculture and rural areas, integrated development of urban and rural areas, and the policy system for areas relating to agriculture, rural areas and rural residents, in an effort to build itself into a new-type agricultural think tank.
