In order to fully study the principles of the National Education Work Conference, implement the Outline of the Plan for Building a Leading Country in Education, better adapt to the needs of development in new technologies, new industries, new business forms, and new models, and meet the needs of personalized development of students and cultivating compound talents, the University opened the registration channels for two micro-majors - "Tree Doctor" and "Agricultural Intellectual Property" recently, to develop new talents to support the "Beijing Garden City Plan" and the full advancement of rural revitalization.
Micro-majors refers to a flexible and systematic new form of major creation. They are not included in a university's current undergraduate major catalog, and are designed to cultivate talents in specific disciplinary areas, research directions, or core competencies. It aims to collaboratively cultivate talents through deepened integration of science and education and synergy between industry and education, enhance the alignment between talent cultivation and the demands of industrial development in the new era, and promote the interdisciplinary transferability of students' knowledge and skills.
The "Tree Doctor" micro-major aims to cultivate high-quality, compound, application-oriented talents who possess foundational theoretical knowledge of tree medicine, tree pathology, and entomology, master techniques for tree planting, maintenance, health diagnosis, and pest and disease control, are qualified for tree health assessment, disease diagnosis, and risk prediction, and are competent with landscaping, forestry, and municipal management for tree health management and treatment in enterprises and institutions.
The "Agricultural Intellectual Property" aims to cultivate multidisciplinary talents who have the basic knowledge of the legal system, understand the framework of the intellectual property law, are familiar with the main content of agricultural intellectual property, possess practical skills, and are qualified for the creation, application, protection, management, and service of intellectual property in the agriculture-related fields.
The University will expand its academic offerings with diverse programs like micro-majors, minors, second bachelor's degrees, and experimental classes to provide students with flexible learning paths, aiming to cultivate well-rounded agricultural experts and contribute to the "Beijing Garden City Plan" and the full advancement of rural revitalization.
