The period around Qingming Festival is pivotal for spring plowing and field management. In recent days, teachers and students from Beijing University of Agriculture went to the fields and farm houses with new technologies, in a bid to help farmers in the suburbs of Beijing manage their cultivation and fields more scientifically.
From the lab to the furrow: Field classroom assists farmers with spring plowing
Recently, a team of teachers and students from Beijing Yanqing Berry S&T Backyard led by three teachers, Huang Tiran, Yang Mingfeng, and Li Jing from the College of Bioscience and Resource Environment, BUA went to the planting base of Beijing Juchang Water Conservancy Engineering Company in Changping District to promote the soft-stem kiwi fruit planting technology.
"We have achieved the effective commercialization of research results through a collaborative model of 'experts + graduate students + farmers'," said the team teachers. They added the team will continue to be deeply rooted in the fields and light up the path to rural revitalization with science and technology.
The "louse exterminators" arrive in the pear orchard at this busy season of pest control
The period around the Qingming Festival is the time for the overwintering pear psylla adults to emerge due to the sharply rising temperatures. The team conducted separate investigations into the occurrence of pear psylla at the Mengwu Modern Agricultural Science and Technology Demonstration Park and the 'Pear' Share Rural Garden. "Following Professor Ren's method this spring, we used biofertilizer, and now the pear tree leaves are looking very shiny. Experts do make a difference! " The fruit farmer said with a smile.
"We deeply integrate technical guidance with innovative services. Through precise policy implementation, intelligent empowerment, and organized training, among other measures, we are breaking down the 'last mile' barrier in spring plowing production. With strong technological capabilities and a genuine commitment to serving the people, we are providing the 'Spring Plowing Solutions' to rural revitalization and writing a footnote for the 'Year of Practical Action and Pioneering'," said the teachers of the team.
Applying technology to support agriculture and boost spring production management, winning the battle of pre-cultivation preparations
On April 1, the team from the Plant Health Research Institute of the College of Bioscience and Resource Environment, consisting of Shang Qiaoxia, Zhao Xiaoyan, Liang Qiong, Chen Yan, Ren Junda, Liu Can, and Yan Zhe, visited Yanqing District to provide production guidance on green and high-yield cultivation techniques for greenhouse fruits and vegetables.
“Spring is coming, and everyone's busy. We can't afford to delay the work in our greenhouse! Thanks to the experts who rushed to provide guidance during the crucial farming season, teaching us step-by-step how to solve troublesome issues like melon nematodes and strawberry fruit rot, the quality of these greenhouse vegetables is definitely going to reach a new level this year!" said the fruit farmer happily.
Technology makes the countryside more beautiful; lilies bloom into a path to prosperity
Recently, Professor Zhang Kezhong from the College of Landscape Architecture led graduate students to the Caijiawa Village Rose Garden in Jugezhuang Town, Miyun District, to guide the cultivation of lilies for both ornamental and practical use.
Spring plowing and field management are the crucial part for ensuring a good harvest. Taking the 'Year of Practical Work and Pioneering' initiative as their guiding principle, the faculty and students of Beijing Agriculture University leverage their disciplinary and professional strengths to support agriculture and rural areas. By deeply rooted in the heart of rural China, they address people's needs and pursue academic inquiry, using their wisdom and enthusiasm to demonstrate that technology can provide the wings for rural revitalization and the modernization of Chinese agriculture and rural areas.
