Today is the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, known as the Dragon Boat Festival. Dragon boat racing is not only a competitive sport, but also a cultural inheritance. The 13th Dragon Boat Championship for Capital Colleges and Universities was held during the Dragon Boat Festival. BUA's dragon boat team participated the event and won the second place respectively in the Men's Group B and Women's Group B, and came eighth in the University Group in the Dragon Boat Challenge for Capital Universities and Colleges. It was also invited to join the demonstration performance in the 2025 Jiuzhou Dragon Boat Race held at Yuanmingyuan Ruins Park, showing their vigor and vitality with the speeding boats.
On the morning of May 31, the 13th Dragon Boat Championship for Capital College Students, sponsored by the Beijing College Students Sports Association, undertaken by Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture, and executed by the Dragon Boat Branch of the Beijing College Students Sports Association, took place on the Tonghui River at Gaobeidian, Chaoyang District. A total of 38 men's and women’s dragon boat teams from 21 universities and colleges in Beijing joined the race. BUA's dragon boat team won the second place respectively in the Men's Group B and Women's Group B for its outstanding performance.
On the afternoon of May 31, at the invitation of the Administration Office of Yuanmingyuan Ruins Park, BUA’s dragon boat team participated in the demonstration performance of the 2025 Jiuzhou Dragon Boat Race held in the Jiuzhou-Back Lake area in the Yuanmingyuan Ruins Park, where it demonstrated its competitive spirit and spent a peaceful and happy Dragon Boat Festival with the visitors at the site.
Before the Dragon Boat Festival, BUA's dragon boat team joined the 2025 Dragon Boat Challenge for Capital Universities and Colleges & Dragon Boat Race in Mentougou District on the Mencheng Lake, Mentougou District. A total of 18 teams from 12 universities and colleges, including Peking University, Beijing Sport University and Nankai University, as well as 10 teams form social public, competed together. BUA ranked the eighth thanks to its unwavering fighting spirit and outstanding performance.
Established in 2011, BUA’s dragon boat team consists of students from specialties across the university, and is one of the most characteristic and eye-catching university-level sports team on the campus. Starting from scratch, members of the team, coached by Yan Xiaojun and Lu Hejiang, train hard and strive tenaciously for excellence, taking active part in various dragon boat races held both at home and abroad. In recent years, the team has achieved remarkable results in many large events, such as the Dragon Boat Championship for Capital College Students and the Dragon Boat Championship for Chinese College Students, and won extensive praise for its outstanding performance and indomitable competitive spirit.
At BUA, the course of Chinese Dragon Boat Racing was introduced in 2010, made a public optional course in the autumn semester of 2017, and named as a quality course at the municipal level in 2020. During the learning process, students inherit traditional Chinese culture, and develop the virtues of hard work and striving for excellence.
BUA's dragon boat team will continue to carry forward the spirit of "unity, striving, tenacity, and innovation". With each stroke of paddles, they continuously enhance their strength and skills. While actively engaging in various sports events and cultural activities, the team also demonstrates the outcomes of sports education, and contributes BUA's strength to maintaining and carrying forward excellent Chinese traditions.
