Professor Duan Liusheng is a young and middle-aged leading talent in scientific and technological innovation under the National Ten Thousand Talents Program, a distinguished professor under the Chang Jiang Scholars Program launched by the Ministry of Education, a winner of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and an outstanding talent in agricultural research. He has chaired over 10 state-level projects and programs, including those under the National Key Research and Development Program, the 863 Program and NSFC programs. Professor Duan has received seven state or provincial-level awards for scientific research outcomes, including one 2nd prize of the National Award for Technological Invention, and two 2nd prizes of the National Award for Science and Technology Progress. He has been authorized more than 20 national invention patents, published a number of academic papers in journals like Cell Reports, Field Crops Research, European Journal of Agronomy and Pest Management Science, as well as eight books or textbooks.

Located in Beijing, China, Beijing University Of Agriculture (BUA) is a municipal university of Beijing established jointly by Beijing Municipal Education Commission, Beijing Municipal Science & Technology Commission, former Beijing Municipal Commission of Rural Affairs, Beijing Municipal Forestry and Parks Bureau, and former Beijing Bureau of Agriculture. It has been included into the first pilot universities included in China's excellent agriculture & forestry talent education and training program and the "2011 Plan" for universities and colleges in Beijing. It’s among the universities undertaking the national 973 Program and 863 Program. BUA Science Park has been recognized as a university science park in Beijing. It’s a higher education institution of agriculture and forestry with distinctive characteristics and multi-disciplinary integration.
As of May 2024, BUA spanned over 1,100 mu (~ 73.3 ha.), with a total floor area of over 290,000 square meters. It consisted of 11 secondary schools and 3 teaching departments, and provided 38 undergraduate programs.
As of May 2024, BUA had 10 master degree programs in first-level disciplines and seven categories of professional degrees. In particularly, Horticulture has been included in the list of advanced and sophisticated disciplines to be built by universities in Beijing, and Horticulture, Veterinary Medicine and Economics & Management of Agriculture & Forestry have been included in Beijing's doctoral program construction plan.
As of May 2024, BUA had three national characteristic programs, four national first-class undergraduate programs, 13 first-class undergraduate programs in Beijing, and two key first-class programs to be built by universities in Beijing. it had two state-level and four municipal-level experiment and teaching demonstration centers, one state-level, five municipal-level and 338 university-level off-campus talent training bases, and two municipal-level on-campus practice bases.
BUA has successively reached cooperation agreements or memorandums with 32 universities or colleges in 17 countries, including the US, UK, Australia and France. It has carried out “3+1” cooperative education programs for undergraduate students majoring in International Economy and Trade (International Business Management), Food Science and Engineering (International Food Quality and Retail Management), and Agricultural Resources and Environment (Environmental Management) respectively with Harper Adams University in the UK and Edith Cowan University in Australia. It has also launched the “3+1” joint cultivation program that covers 22 undergraduate specialties respectively with Royal Agricultural University and University of Northumbria at Newcastle in the UK and Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology in New Zealand. BUA also collaborated with Azabu University in Japan and Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, Poland on postgraduate exchanges.
*The 10,000-mu forest farm as part of BUA Science Park
BUA’s forest farm is an important teaching, scientific research and internship base of the School. With abundant vegetation, it’s a secondary forest in the primitive area of Labagoumen, Huairou District, Beijing. The forest farm has an elevation of 1,561 m at the main peak, and 821 m in the living area. With a vegetation coverage of 82%, it is home to more than 1,200 varieties of animals and plants. After 11 years of constant development, the forest farm has seen establishment of a complete service system for teaching and internship.
