n Bitola, North Macedonia, visited BUA.
The meeting was chaired by Guo Kaijun. Attendees included Sun Xi and Guo Kaijun, Deputy Directors of the International Cooperation and Exchange Office; Xu Guangcai, Vice Dean of the College of Economics and Management; Wei Ying, Vice Dean of the College of Food Science and Engineering; Yi Zhaohong, teacher of the College of Bioscience and Resources Environment, as well as other key teachers.
On behalf of BUA, Sun Xi extended a warm welcome to the visiting delegation and briefed BUA's educational features, discipline development, and international cooperation initiatives. She noted that with a 70-year history, BUA boasts distinctive strengths in agriculture and forestry disciplines and a well-established academic system, and has long been committed to expanding international cooperation. She said, as the second-largest public comprehensive university in North Macedonia, University "St. Clement of Ohrid" in Bitola highly aligns with BUA in competitive disciplines such as biotechnology, food science and agricultural economics, which means great potential for the bilateral cooperation. She expressed the hope that both sides will leverage the visit to advance practical cooperation across multiple fields.
Elena Joshevska thanked BUA for the warm reception and spoke highly of BUA's strengths in education and scientific research in agriculture, forestry, food science and biotechnology. She introduced that the Faculty of Biotechnical Sciences at the University "St. Clement of Ohrid" in Bitola offers a complete education system spanning undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs. Focusing on animal husbandry and food processing, the faculty boasts well-furnished laboratories, rich experience in international exchanges built on cooperative programs in Europe, as well as close partnership with enterprises and research institutes. She voiced a strong desire to deepen the cooperation, share academic achievements and promote long-term exchanges with BUA.
During the meeting, both sides held in-depth discussions on talent training, scientific research and academic exchanges, and exchanged views on joint research, teacher and student exchanges, as well as academic conferences. The two sides reached an initial consensus on cooperation and signed a memorandum of intent for cooperation, agreeing to drive cooperation through concrete programs. This paved the way for the implementation of future collaboration initiatives.
After the meeting, the delegation visited the College of Food Science and Engineering. Seeing the teaching laboratories and featured research achievements in person, they sang high praise for BUA's innovative practices in food processing, quality control and biotechnology application. This further enhanced the mutual trust for bilateral cooperation.
As a key institution of higher education in North Macedonia, University "St. Clement of Ohrid" in Bitola covers a wide range of disciplines including natural sciences, engineering and technology, agricultural biotechnology, humanities and social sciences, and is particularly influential in biotechnology, food science and agricultural economics. This makes the university a major force driving the development of local education and research in agriculture and food sciences.
