On July 9, Summer Palace Research Institute BUA Branch was officially unveiled at BUA. This marks the in-depth cooperation between the Summer Palace and BUA ushers into a new stage.

Since the signing of a strategic cooperation agreement between BUA and the Administration Office of the Summer Palace in June 2024, both sides have visited each other for deeper communication. Collaboration has been conducted on the assessment of the health of ancient Chinese pine trees and the impact of soil environment, as well as on the design of better landscape in Yangyunxuan Yard, producing sound results.
To further consolidate the foundation and broaden the areas of cooperation, both sides agreed to establish Summer Palace Research Institute BUA Branch, to implement the bilateral strategic agreement in a more detailed and tangible manner. Three teams will be set up under the Summer Palace Research Institute BUA Branch to focus on garden plant research, landscape design, and garden culture interpretation, respectively. Both sides will strengthen cooperation on ancient tree research, landscape improvement and project application, exhibition planning, and popular science education. In combination with the Historical Atlas for Three Hills and Five Gardens that is to be published soon, both sides will jointly conduct research on the restoration of historical landscape and the cultural research on farming, sericulture and weaving in royal gardens, to contribute to heritage protection efforts. At the meeting, the Administration Office of the Summer Palace gave the Summer Palace Archives in the Qing Dynasty and the Annals of the Summer Palace, both precious materials, to the research institute branch for free.


BUA and the Administration Office of the Summer Palace will also cooperate on training the professional talents needed by the industry. The College of Landscape Architecture of BUA appointed six experts from the Administration Office of the Summer Palace, including Li Xiaoguang, Wang Shubiao, Rong Hua, Zhao Xiaoyan, Wang Shuang, and Liu Wei, as postgraduate supervisors. And the Administration Office of the Summer Palace appointed five teachers from the College of Landscape Architecture of BUA, including Hu Zenghui, Liu Yueqiu, Li Jinping, Zhu Qiang and Bao Menghan, as Science & Technology Commissioners.

At the unveiling ceremony, the opening ceremony for BUA's "Professor Workstation" was held, too. Established at the Administration Office of the Summer Palace, the workstation is headed by Professor Hu Zenghui from the College of Landscape Architecture of BUA. Based on the Professor Workstation, BUA will fully leverage its advantages in talents, technology and platforms, precisely align with the Summer Palace's demands for cultural heritage protection and function upgrading, to contribute BUA's Wisdom and Strength to Beijing's cultural building.
