On July 16, the "History and Culture Exhibition of the Three Hills and Five Gardens" sponsored by Beijing Haidian District Culture and Tourism Bureau and organized by the School of Landscape Architecture was opened at the Zhongguancun International Innovation Center. The exhibition is themed on Haidian District’s most representative cultural “business card” - the Three Hills and Five Gardens, to showcase the unique charm of China’s royal gardens and the latest conservation and research results to experts and scholars at home and abroad.

The Three Hills and Five Gardens, including the Old Summer Palace (Yuanmingyuan), the Garden of the Exuberant Spring (Changchunyuan), the Longevity Hill (Wanshoushan); the Summer Palace (Yiheyuan), the Jade Spring Hill (Yuquanshan);the Garden of Tranquility and Brightness (Jingmingyuan), and the Fragrant Hills (Xiangshan); the Garden of Tranquility and Pleasure (Jingyiyuan) constitute a cluster of royal gardens of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). The layout of the entire area is organically integrated into the natural landscape of Haidian, providing an ideal living environment in ancient times. Unfortunately, it suffered severe damage in the years of war in modern times and carries a special national memory. This exhibition shows the latest work of the School's Three Hills and Five Gardens Studio, covering three themes: "Garden Landscape", "Garden Living Style" and "Garden Heritage". The main visual effect of the exhibition is like an open ancient book, with ancient paintings depicting the panoramic view of the heyday of the Three Hills and Five Gardens embedded in it. In the 150-square-meter open exhibition area, there are more than 30 exhibits including flower arrangement artworks, digital replicas, replicas of Qing Dynasty imperial seals and maps, plates of thematic content and ancient and modern images. These rich exhibits help the guests intuitively understand the internationally influential garden art achievements of the Three Hills and Five Gardens, their unique historical function of “governing the country from the gardens” in the Qing Dynasty, and the country’s efforts in protecting and inheriting them, especially the achievements of Haidian District in creating a “National Cultural Relics Protection and Utilization Demonstration Zone” in recent years.

In order to promote international exchanges, all texts have been translated into English. The exhibition also offers experience of garden VR (virtual reality) and imperial seal stamping, attracting many visitors to come to take a look.

It is reported that the exhibition will last until the closing of the conference on July 19, and will later be exhibited online.
