Introduction

The College of Landscape Architecture at Beijing University of Agriculture was established in 1979, and it became an independent department and began enrolling students in 1983. It is one of the key departments that was established and developed early at our university. Initially named the Department of Forestry at Beijing University of Agriculture, it was renamed the Department of Landscape Architecture in 1986, and became the School of Landscape Architecture in 2010. Now it has grown into one of the largest, most comprehensive, and strongest colleges of its kind in China, with distinctive educational features. At present, the School offers four undergraduate programs: Landscape Architecture, Landscape Gardening, Forestry, and Environmental Design. Among them, the Landscape Architecture program is a national first-class undergraduate program and a municipal characteristic program in Beijing, while the Landscape Gardening program is a first-class undergraduate program in Beijing. The School has one master's degree program in Forestry as a first-level discipline and two professional master's degree programs in Landscape Gardening and Forestry.

The School currently has 60 staff members who are dedicated to their work and committed to education. Among them, there are 46 full-time teachers with rich teaching experience and high academic standards, including 12 professors, 24 associate professors and 1 senior laboratory technician. There are 30 teachers with doctoral degrees and 36 master supervisors. The Teaching Team of Landscape Plants is recognized as an excellent teaching team in Beijing. Among the teaching faculty, there is 1 recipient of the leading scientific and technological innovation talent under the "Ten Thousand Talents Program" by the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, 1 national candidate for the "New Century Talent Project", 1 recipient of the Science and Technology Innovation Talent in Forestry and Grassland by the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, 1 recipient of the New Century Excellent Talent by the Ministry of Education, 1 recipient of the State Council's special government allowance, 3 Beijing municipal teaching masters, 1 Beijing Science and Technology Rising Star, 8 Beijing Municipal Young and Middle-aged Key Teachers, 7 Beijing Outstanding Talent and Youth Leading Talent awardees, 1 Excellent Teaching Team and 1 Science and Technology Innovation Team in Beijing.

The School currently has three departments: Department of Landscape Gardening, Department of Forestry, and Department of Art and Design. The School has several national and provincial-level teaching and research platforms, including the National Forestry and Grassland Ancient Tree Health and Ancient Tree Culture Engineering Technology Research Center, Beijing Rural Landscape Planning and Design Engineering Technology Research Center, and Beijing Urban and Rural Ecological Environment Laboratory (co-established). It also has a teaching laboratory center, which consists of two undergraduate laboratories in Landscape Planning, Design & Engineering, Landscape Plants & Ecology, as well as one graduate laboratory. The School has multiple practical training bases, including a 25-mu nursery base on the campus, a 25-mu facility flower base in the East Campus, a 20-mu landscape plant cultivation base in the West Campus, and a 10,000-mu forest farm base in Huairou District. It also has several co-established bases. The Baihua Mountain National Nature Reserve Base has been recognized as an outstanding off-campus talent training base of Beijing colleges and universities. The Yanqing Sihai Base has been recognized as an outstanding new rural construction base at the university level. The Beijing Botanical Garden has been designated as an outstanding teaching base at the university level. The teaching laboratory center is equipped with over 50 large-scale instruments and devices valued at more than RMB 100,000, with a total asset value exceeding RMB 30 million. It has excellent teaching and scientific research conditions, and many of its educational, teaching and research achievements have received awards.

The School currently has over 240 graduate students and more than 990 undergraduate students. The School has consistently focused on strengthening practical teaching to cultivate application-oriented and interdisciplinary talents. It has cultivated nearly 5,000 students, including those with graduate, undergraduate, and associate degrees. The graduates from the School are well-grounded in basic knowledge, possess strong practical skills, and have high overall qualities. They are widely recognized and highly evaluated in society. With a broad employment prospect and significant development opportunities, the employment rate for graduates across all programs consistently remains above 96%. Most graduates become key professionals in fields such as landscape design and engineering, forestry, landscape architecture, ecological environment construction, urban planning and design, and art design, making positive contributions to the economic development of the capital's suburbs and regions. At the same time, it has trained over 13,000 correspondence students in landscape architecture, with participants distributed across 26 provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the central government, and special administrative regions nationwide. In recent years, the School has adhered to the philosophy of "student education-oriented, moral education first, capability-focused, and comprehensive development", with the goal of fostering students' growth and success. Social practice activities have achieved remarkable results. The Qingmanggu Rural Cultural and Creative Team was recognized as an outstanding team in the national program of "Volunteer Activities for the Country People" in 2023. Students have also received more than thirty provincial and ministerial-level awards in various academic competitions, including the China Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, the China Packaging Creative Design Competition, the National College Student E-commerce "Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship" Challenge, the "Challenge Cup" Capital University Students' Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition, the Beijing University Student Advertising Art Competition, and the Beijing University Student Animation Design Competition.

In terms of talent cultivation, scientific research and social services, the School of Landscape Architecture has consistently followed the university's educational orientation of "rooted in the capital, serving agriculture, rural areas and rural residents, and radiating nationwide". With ecological construction at its core and a distinctive focus on advancing rural development, the School closely aligns its activities with the actual needs of national and Beijing municipal development. It actively responds to the national strategy of rural revitalization and meets the demands of coordinated development in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. The School is committed to cultivating high-level applied talents who are innovative, up-to-date, and dedicated to serving urban and rural ecological and living environment construction, thereby contributing to promoting coordinated urban and rural development.
