Introduction
College ofIntelligent Science and Engineering, originated from the computer teaching and research section of the Department of Basic Sciences and was established in 1997. Thecollegecurrently offers three undergraduate programs: Internet of Things Engineering, Data Science and Big Data Technology, and Facility Agriculture Science and Engineering, along with one master's program in Agricultural Engineering and Information Technology. Presently, thecollegehas 567 undergraduate students and 88 postgraduate students. The faculty consists of 28 full-time teachers, all holding at least a master's degree, including 4 professors and 14 associate professors. There are 14 in-house master's supervisors and 20 external supervisors. Among the faculty, one serves as an executive director of the Beijing Artificial Intelligence Society, one as a director of the Beijing Agricultural Informatization Society, one as a director of the Beijing Internet of Things Research Association, one as an expert in the Beijing Innovation Team of the Crop Industry Technology System, and two have been selected for the Beijing Universities "Young Talents Program." Thecollegehas developed a team with rich teaching experience, vibrant teaching, research, and social service capabilities.
Overall Talent Training Goals
The overall goal is to cultivate well-rounded talents with moral, intellectual, physical, and aesthetic development. These individuals will possess comprehensive qualities and a general knowledge structure, mastering basic theories and technologies in computers, electronic information, and network communication. They will have the engineering practice ability to analyze and solve problems in the field of information technology and provide informatization services for local economic and social development, particularly for agriculture, rural areas, and farmers. Based in the capital, thecollegeaims to serve the economic and social development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, cultivating high-quality, compound, and application-oriented talents with the ability to innovate, a strong foundation for further study, and the potential for sustainable development.
Program-specific Training Goals
Based on thecollege's talent training goals, each program has established training objectives that reflect its professional characteristics, supporting the overall goals and highlighting the integration and intersection of disciplines. These goals align with the university's philosophy of "mainstream entry with distinctive features," showcasing the teaching characteristics of information science and technology at agricultural and forestry universities. The training goals for each program are as follows:
Internet of Things Engineering
Started in 2018, this undergraduate program adopts acollege-enterprise cooperation and industry-education integration model, focusing on agriculture and serving the capital. It emphasizes the cultivation of practical and application innovation abilities. The program aims to develop well-rounded individuals proficient in basic natural sciences, the fundamental theories and knowledge of the Internet of Things (IoT), and urban modern agriculture. Graduates will have the skills to identify, recognize, acquire, transmit, process, and control information using computer technology, automatic control technology, sensor information processing technology, and Internet technology. They will be capable of integrating IoT systems and developing and promoting related technologies and products, becoming high-quality engineering application-oriented talents meeting the needs of social development.
Data Science and Big Data Technology
This program began enrollment in 2021, catering to Beijing's urban functional positioning and economic and social development needs. It aims to cultivate compound application-oriented talents in the field of big data science and engineering, with a focus on big data analysis technology for data collection, processing, analysis, visualization, and decision-making support. The program has specialized laboratories and acollege-enterprise collaborative teaching practice base, enhancing professional training functions and deepening the talent training system. It employs 12 full-time teachers and 5 part-time teachers fromcollege-enterprise collaboration, with 82% holding senior professional titles. Graduates will possess self-learning abilities, innovative and entrepreneurial spirit, and good professional ethics, mastering basic knowledge of data science, computer theory, and big data processing technology to analyze and solve complex engineering problems in the field of big data applications.
Facility Agriculture Science and Engineering
Launched in 2022, this program addresses the development needs of urban modern agriculture in the capital. It aims to cultivate application-oriented talents in the field of facility agriculture science and engineering, proficient in planning, designing, and constructing modern agricultural facilities, intelligent decision-making, and control of facility environments, and the application of small-scale agricultural intelligent equipment. The program emphasizes the latest developments in industry and technology, focusing on intelligent control technology for agricultural facility environments. It incorporates a teaching model integrating industry and education, with specialized experimental platforms and a collaborative teaching practice base built jointly by thecollegeand enterprises. Graduates will possess self-learning abilities, innovative and entrepreneurial spirit, and good professional ethics, capable of using agricultural facility engineering and intelligent control technology to solve complex engineering problems in urban modern agriculture and related fields.
Commitment to Quality Education
Thecollegeconsistently prioritizes the quality of education and teaching, striving to enhance students' practical abilities and innovative consciousness. It actively builds practice bases both inside and outside the campus. Currently, thecollegehas established two on-campus practice training bases—the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Center and the Intelligent Greenhouse—and 30 off-campus practice training bases. Thecollegeboasts comprehensive teaching and experimental equipment, including basic laboratories for public courses, an embedded laboratory, a network laboratory, a geographic information system laboratory, a multimedia technology laboratory, and an agricultural informatization comprehensive training platform, fully meeting the needs of teaching and scientific research.
To enhance students' innovative spirit, entrepreneurial awareness, and innovation and entrepreneurship abilities, and improve the quality of talent training in the new IT industry, thecollegehas signed cooperation agreements with Anbo Education, Kangbang-Lianchuang Zhongkong, and Beijing Xuan Yu Technology Co., Ltd. to establish the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Center, in line with the "University ofBeijing Agricultural Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Reform Implementation Plan" and the goal of cultivating outstanding talents in modern urban agriculture and forestry. Leveraging this training platform, students from thecollegeachieved notable results in the National Software Talent Design and Development Competition, winning third place in the national competition and first place in the Beijing division in 2013 and 2014. In 2017, they secured first place in the Beijing division and second place nationally in the Blue Bridge Cup National Software and Information Technology Talent Competition.
