Zhang Xichun

Professor Zhang Xichun, the current director of dean's office in Beijing University of Agriculture, graduated from the Department of biology in Saint Petersburg University of Russia majoring in genetics. He serves as Master’s Tutor, as well as the Vice Secretary General and standing director of Beijing Vegetable Society, director of the WRSA(Western Returned Students’ Association) and the National Institute of Higher Agricultural Education. Resume: He earned his bachelor and master degree in Northeast Agricultural University in July, 1986 and July, 1989 respectively. From September of 1994 to January of the next year, he accepted preparatory training in Study Abroad Agency in Sichuan University before going to Russia. Later, he received his doctor’s degree in Russia Saint-Petersburg State University in July, 2009. Afterwards, he carried out postdoctoral research in China Agricultural University from September of 1999 to April of 2003 and worked there after graduation. Since May, 2003, he has worked in Beijing University of Agriculture.

Main Research direction: His main research interests lie in vegetable genetics & breeding and biological technology. At present, the study focuses on tomato breeding for resistance to low temperature and weak light and for resistance to disease. Multiple tomato varieties have been bred. In terms of biotechnology breeding, he mainly researches the development of cell engineering breeding and molecular marker -assisted breeding. From the aspect of disease resistance mechanism, he concentrates on the study of disease resistance mechanism. of sterols
 
Main Courses: Various lessons have been given to undergraduate students like “Breeding of Horticultural Plants”, “Plant Cell and Tissue Culture”, “Gardening Plants’ Varieties” and so on. Courses like “Advanced Vegetable Breeding”, “Vegetable Cell Engineering”, “Research Progress of Vegetables” and the like are offered to postgraduates. More than 60 academic papers have been published on influential academic journals both at home and abroad. Ten scientific research works have been published and many provincial-level awards in teaching and scientific research have been granted.
