About BUA

Founded in 1956, Beijing University of Agriculture (BUA) is a metropolitan agricultural higher institute affiliated to Beijing municipal government, with distinct characteristics and integrating multiple disciplines. The university covers an area of 760,000 square meters with more than 1200 staff, and more than 8700 students in postgraduate and undergraduate.The university has already developed into a multi-type and multi-level urban-typed agricultural higher institute.

The university has 9 major colleges, namely, College of Biotechnology, Resources and Environment, College of Plant Science and Technology, College of Animal Science and Technology, College of Economics & Management, College of Landscape Architecture, College of Food Science and Engineering, College of Computer and Information Engineering, College of Humanities, Law, and Urban-Rural Development, and College of International Education.

There are 11 first-level disciplines in the university: Horticulture, Forestry, Crop Science, Veterinary Medicine, Husbandry, Plant protection, Bioengineering, Food Science and Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Agricultural and Forestry Economy, and Business Administration.

There are 26 national, provincial and ministerial scientific research platforms, 2 national & 4 Beijing municipal experimental teaching demonstration centers, 5 Beijing municipal outside talent training bases, 7 Beijing municipal key laboratories or research units, such as urban agriculture (North China) key laboratory of the Ministry of Agriculture, Beijing municipal veterinary medicine (traditional Chinese medicine) key laboratory, Beijing agricultural application new technology key laboratory, Beijing agricultural product harmful organism and pesticide residues and safety testing and control key laboratory, Beijing municipal new countryside construction research base, Beijing metropolitan agriculture research institute, and the Capital agricultural product safety industry technology research institute etc.

The university adheres to open schooling practice, and actively carries out international exchange and cooperation. The university had signed cooperative agreements or memorandums with more than 30 higher institutes from 17 countries and regions. The university has 3+1 cooperative programs (approved by Chinese Ministry of Education) with Harper Adams University in UK and Edith Cowan University in Australia, and joint education programs with higher institutes from UK, USA, New Zealand, etc.

With a history of over 60 years, the university has cultivated talents in all areas especially in agriculture.Now,BUA has become an important base for metropolitan modern agricultural talents in Beijing and a technology service demonstration center for modern agricultural in the country.
