Team from Edith Cowan University Visits BUA

On April 24, 2024, Helen Vella Bonavita, Head of the International Office, Elizabeth Watkin, Deputy Dean of the School of Science, and Fengmei Guo, Director of the International Cooperationand ExchangeOffice, from Edith Cowan University visitedourBUA, and signed an agreement on the alignment of courses with us. Wu Yan, Vice President of BUA, received the visiting team, and Qin Ling, Dean of the College of Plant Science and Technology, Shang Qiaoxia, Dean of the College ofBiotechnology,ResourcesandEnvironment, Qiu Quan, Deputy Dean of the College of Intelligent Science and Engineering, and relevant faculty members attended the exchange session chaired by Yang Baodong, Head of the International Cooperation and Exchange Office.

Wu Yan welcomed the team from Edith Cowan University, and highly affirmed the quality of talent cultivation through the Sino-Australia cooperative education program, hoping thatbased onthe newly signed agreement on the alignment of courses, bothuniversities will boost theexchange andcooperation betweensecondarycolleges and disciplines, constantly expand the cooperation range and deepen the cooperation achievements, in order to jointly advance the high-quality development of both universities. Elizabeth Watkin thanked BUA forher support and efforts in the decade-long cooperation, andsincerelyexpected stronger collaboration for common progress. Both sides held talks on how to further expand the areas of cooperation.

At the meeting, both sides signed theAgreement on the Alignment of Courses between Beijing University of Agriculture and Edith Cowan University.

The team visited the Experimental Demonstration Center and key laboratory of the College of Plant Science and Technology of BUA.

In recent years, BUA has kept strengthening the ties with high-level universities and colleges overseas, actively advanced “3+1”cooperative programs, took concrete steps to ensure the degrees and credits of both universities are mutually recognized, and realized full alignment of the specialties under the “3+1”cooperative programs.The signingoftheAgreement on the Alignment of Courses between Beijing University of Agriculture and Edith Cowan Universitymarks another in-depth cooperation following the launch of the Sino-Australia cooperative education program(on the specialty ofAgriculture andResourceEnvironment) between BUA and Edith Cowan University. Under the framework of the agreement, the credits in the specialty ofHorticulture of the College of Plant Science and Technology will be mutually recognized. To be specific, the undergraduate students majoring inHorticulture, who complete four semesters (two academic years) of studying with qualified results at BUA and meet the admission conditions for the corresponding undergraduate specialty of Edith Cowan University, can continue studying for two more years insuch specialty of Edith Cowan University. After meeting the graduation and degree awarding conditions of both Edith Cowan University and BUA, the students will be granted the bachelor’s degrees and diplomas respectively by BUA and Edith Cowan University.

So far, BUA has collaborated with 13 overseas high-level universities on the joint education of undergraduates and graduates. Nearly 200 undergraduates and graduates have joined the programs, and over 90% of them have continued studying at overseas high-level universities and research institutes after graduation. Through the deeper implementation of the joint education programs, BUA has helped the students further boost their global vision and competitiveness, achieved more substantive results in talent cultivation, and demonstrateditshigher quality and stronger capacity in international education.

When the ECU delegation went back to AustralasiaElizabeth Watkin summarized that Our recent visit to BUA was very successful. The BUA-ECU Joint Management committee meeting for the Environmental Management program confirmed the continued success of and, our ongoing support for this valuable association. Additionally with the signing of the Articulation Agreement for Horticulture heralds an exciting new program. The tour of the cutting-edge horticulture facilities was fascinating with the impressive work in the glasshouse particularly memorable. We would like to thank our hosts at BUA for their hospitality and look forward to our continuing relationship.
